Offers

Standard offer

A Level: Our standard offer is AAA at A Level including Biology and Chemistry. The third A level can be any subject (excluding General Studies, Applied Science, Citizenship and Critical Thinking). All three A levels should be taken in one sitting.

Applicants who are resitting and who have met our resit threshold will be expected to meet the balance of AAA in their resits

A Levels and Welsh Baccalaureate: Applicants who are undertaking the Welsh Baccalaureate alongside their A Levels can meet the standard offer requirement with either AAA in their A Levels including Biology and Chemistry or with AA in Biology and Chemistry plus A in the Welsh Baccalaureate.

International Baccalaureate: Our standard offer is 36 points in the International Baccalaureate with 6,6,5 in three Higher Level subjects, including 6 in both Biology and Chemistry.

Applicants who have not completed a GCSE equivalent qualification prior to their IB will also be required to obtain Grade 5 at either Standard or Higher Level in both Maths and English Language A or English Language-Literature A.

Applicants undertaking English Language B (English as a Second Language) will be required to undertake an alternative English Language qualification.

Scottish Highers / Advanced Highers: Our standard offer is BBB at Advanced Higher Level, to include both Biology and Chemistry, plus AAAAB achieved at Higher Level.

Where only two subjects have been studied at Advanced Higher Level we will also accept AA in Biology and Chemistry at Advanced Higher Level, plus AAAAA achieved at Higher level.

EPQ offer

Our EPQ offer is AAB at A Level, to include AA in Biology and Chemistry, B in the third A level subject, and A in the EPQ. The third A Level can be any subject (excluding General Studies, Applied Science, Citizenship and Critical Thinking). All three A Levels should be taken in one sitting.

Applicants who are undertaking or who have undertaken an EPQ qualification alongside A Levels are eligible for our EPQ offer. The EPQ can be completed in either Year 12 or Year 13 of your studies.

This offer is only available to applicants who firmly accept their offer of a place at Hull York Medical School, and is not available to applicants who are resitting or who have resat their A levels.

Should you place us as your Insurance choice, you will be expected to achieve the standard A Level offer.

Reduced offer

Our Reduced offer is AAB at A level, to include Biology and Chemistry and a third A level subject. There is no subject restriction for which A level the B is achieved in. The third A level can be any subject (excluding General Studies, Applied Science, Citizenship and Critical Thinking). All three A levels should be taken in one sitting.

Applicants must meet two or more of the following:

  • In receipt of UCAT bursary
  • Resident in POLAR 4 Young Participation Area Quintile 1
  • Resident in POLAR 4 Young Participation Area Quintile 2
  • First in family to attend University
  • Attended a school with a Progress 8 score of -0.25 or below for GCSE (or equivalent) study. (Please see the below section, Devolved Nations – Progress 8 equivalents, for equivalent information specific to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales).

Or, meet one of the following:

Or, have completed one of the following widening participation programmes within the year of application:

  • Hull York Medical School Year 12 Summer School / Residential
  • York Experience Summer School

This offer is only available to applicants who firmly accept their offer of a place at Hull York Medical School. Applicants who place Hull York Medical School as their insurance choice are eligible for the Standard offer.

This offer is also available to applicants who are resitting or who have resat their A levels (or equivalent qualifications, provided they met the resit threshold in their first attempt.

Reduced offer:

A Levels: AAB at A level, to include Biology and Chemistry. There is no subject restriction for which A Level the B is achieved in.

A Levels and Welsh Baccalaureate: AAB across A Levels and the Welsh Baccalaureate, to include Biology and Chemistry. There is no subject restriction for which A Level the B is achieved in.

International Baccalaureate: 35 points in the International Baccalaureate with 6,6,5 in three Higher Level subjects, including both Biology and Chemistry. There is no subject restriction for which Higher Level subject the Grade 5 is achieved in.

Devolved Nations – Progress 8 equivalents

Applicants from the devolved nations will be considered to have the same eligibility as applicants who attended a school with a Progress 8 score of -0.25 or below for GCSE (or equivalent) study, should they meet one of the following comparable markers

Northern Ireland: We will use the Annual School Performance Data measure of % year 12 pupils achieving 5+ GCSEs grades A*-C (including equivalents) including GCSE English and GCSE Mathematics to measure individual schools against the national average. Those achieving below the national average will be eligible for contextual data points comparable to Progress 8.

Scotland: We will use the Attainment for All data set calculating an average tariff score using a virtual comparator to measure individual schools against the national average. Those achieving below the national average will be eligible for contextual data points comparable to Progress 8.

Wales: We will use the Capped 9 indicator to measure individual schools against the national average. Those achieving below the national average will be eligible for contextual data points comparable to Progress 8.

Data to enable us to assess each of these measures will be collected via questionnaire following October application deadline.

Alternative offer

Our Alternative offer is ABB at A level, to include Biology and Chemistry and a third A level subject, plus successful completion of one of the widening participation programmes listed. The third A level can be any subject (excluding General Studies, Applied Science, Citizenship and Critical Thinking). All three A levels should be taken in one sitting.

This offer is only available to applicants who firmly accept their offer of a place at Hull York Medical School.

This offer is also available to applicants (excluding those applying via UKWPMED) who are resitting or who have resat their A levels, provided they met the BBB resit threshold in their first attempt, and provided they firmly accept their offer of a place at Hull York Medical School.

Applicants must either have completed one of the following UKWPED programmes within the year of application:

  • Birmingham Medical School – Routes to the Professions: Medicine
  • Brighton and Sussex Medical School – BrightMed
  • Keele University School of Medicine – Steps2Medicine
  • University of Leicester – AccessLeicester: Medicine
  • Manchester Medical School – Manchester Access Programme and Preston Widening Access Programme (medicine route)
  • Peninsula Medical School – Peninsula Pathways PLUS

Or, completed one of the following widening participation programmes within two years of application:

  • Hull York Medical School Pathways to Medicine programme
  • Realising Opportunities programme
  • University of York Black Access programme
  • University of York Next Step York programme
  • University of York Yorway programme

Graduate offer

Our standard Graduate offer is 2.1 or equivalent if your undergraduate degree meets our eligibility requirements.

Access offer

Our standard Access to HE Diploma Medicine offer is 60 credits with at least 45 being at level 3, the rest being at level 2.

Distinctions (or percentage marks above 70%) are required in all Level 3 modules; a pass is required in all other modules.

Bradford Foundation offer

Our standard University of Bradford Foundation in Clinical Sciences/Medicine programme offer is 75% overall, with minimum 75% in Biology and Chemistry.
